i like little front hub motors for trikes for older folks , and newb bike riders . thy are great for rehabbing knees or cardio . Just enough power to enjoy and lower speeds for safety . Plus its All wheel drive ⚡

I got a Swytch kit with the air battery. I have had other e-bikes too. I do like that the air version is really light, and the small battery has enough range to get over 14-15 miles even with 600-700' of elevation on my commute. It charges fast enough that I can commute into the downtown area of my city, recharge while doing some work, and come home within a few hours. One unforeseen advantage is that I can climb a 15% grade that broke my other bikes' drive side spokes. I think that this is due to the front hub motor doing maybe half of the work as the rear wheel takes the rest of the load. So two wheels taking the load instead of one means less strain on the rear spokes. I live close to some very steep climbs, which is why I got an e-bike kit in the first place about 9 years ago.

The lever is on backwards. The quick release lever should never be placed on the same side as the brake disc.. This is a no brainer..

This is going to be very difficult to enforce.

This is why many newer mountain bike uses the Thru Axle design. Area 13 "Bolton" BlackBird ebike uses this design. I have a regular front hub motor with disc brake and the the nut gets loose over 200-300 miles of ride. With heavier load and hard riding, routine check is a good idea.

you don't charge your battery overnight.. SOMEONE'S supposed keep an eye on them while they're charging ..NOT a hard job .. if someone did their job. you would think that the authority on e bike safety would've been versed in the proper care and maintenance of these bikes .

I've been riding an Ebike since 2019. When I converted my two wheeled recumbent bike, to an Ebike. Two. The BMS or Battery Maintenance System, or BMS, is only rated for a charger of 2 amps. So that is all I use. Yes it takes over night to do such. But nothing heats up but the charger. So there is that. So this fire could have started due to a bad BMS system, or some one used the wrong charger on the bike, or the charger failed. Some one pointed out that Ebike batteries get hot during use. That depends on the type of motor the Ebike uses. Mine is a Magnetic Direct Drive system. So the battery does not heat up, the hub motor on my front wheel does. And I've charged my battery both inside and outside since August of 2019, with no issues. Also, depending on how the bikes where being ridden, was there any damage to the bike or battery before the fire. And did the space where all the Ebikes where stored and charged, have enough power to do the job? Too many questions, just to say, it was the Ebike Battery.

According to Google, automotive workers make up 1.3% of workers in the US (in 2022), that is about 4,364,800 workers. If enough people start ditching their cars in favor of E-bikes, then that's the automotive industry's ass. Personally, I think having more bikes, and more bike friendly cities would be awesome; more bikes could encourage more people to explore their neighborhoods and cities/towns, and more exploration might help out a lot of small business; and more bikes means less pollution. But on the flip side, even if more people started buying E-bikes, people still need cars. Parents might not feel comfy riding with their kids, or they might have too many people for taking an E-bike to make sense. When I started writing this comment, I was all "Big car doesn't want us to ride our bikes!" But now I see that it's a lot more complicated than that.

This is HB model 2, yeah the rim brakes there suck. HB model 3 has a much better drum brake on the front wheel that works just fine and you certainly wont flip over :D and even disc brakes work, I managed to modify my front wheel with a different hub (not sturmey archer) that works with disc brakes.

You will think twice when you see all these idiots in these powerful e-bike taking over a street thinking they owned it. The laws are to get rid of these idiots

The provision that programmable e-bikes are still bikes makes a lot of sense to me. If you restrict your programmable more powerful bike to the legal limits, that's OK. That's how I read it. This is no legal advice, either. In my country, street legal e-bikes are limited to 600W and 25kph (which is a lot less than 20mph). I configure my controller to make it conform to these legal limits on public roads or public land. The motor is more capable than that. (On private property, with the owner's consent, I can exceed the street legal limits.) IMO that's OK, but if I got pulled over by a cop having a bad day, they could still give me a hard time. Because I couldn't refer them to §58 (or whatever it was) explicitly allowing it.

I've seen two of your videos, and they were both fantastic. I just ordered my first ebike (I'm a 63 year old lifelong (-10 yrs 😂) recreational bicyclist/ motorcyclist and have ordered my first ebike. I'm just trying to get my ass out of the house. I hope the government does as little as possible in this regard ofc, but, do they ever? Not in my lifetime.

The only thing I see with cars is that the government made it impossible for people to buy small trucks like the Ford ranger or look it up the manufacturers are not able to make them anymore so they have to make 6,000 lb vehicles that cost $90,000.

They don't mention how many of those ebike deaths were the fault of getting hit by a car. They act like the deaths are the bikes fault every time. How many people die each year on normal bikes? Their laws already made my life difficult cause I wanted to buy an afford electric motorcycle but the laws have made it basically 2 camps, underpowered bikes and way over priced and over powered motorcycles. Hard to find something reasonable in the middle. I recently though purchased a cheap $120 busted ebike I'm repairing myself to learn how it all works so I can just build my own custom electric moped. For the record I have a motorcycle license.

I think lawyers will find anything to sue over if they are allowed to where it comes to a pedal bike electric or normal I expect the users to know the risks and have the sense to take a basic familiarity course if they have zero clue... You know why this even has come up? ... because of the dweebs who are riding those super-fast ones on shared pedestrian paths ... I loved riding my class 3 but I 'NEVER' rode full tilt on the paths where i could see any pedestrian because they always are walking ear buds or over ear headphones in oblivious ... not to mention groups of three or more people walking shoulder to shoulder blocking the entire path in the process... or the dog owner with their leash run out.... etc ... but I treated myself as the vehicle and always self-policed myself to be a good steward ... I cannot say the same for others ... even regular cyclists with their road bikes are offenders of being bad actors as well ... I would say oh make them 'wider' but that just compounds the same problem with people blocking the path as even on the widest areas I run into this problem ... but yeah ... its inevitable the hammer drops down as I am rather surprised, I not seen someone get hit by one of those 50+ plus missiles ...

Chargers should always be placed on a timer in case the electronics fail and the charging does not stop. A safety design for batteries would be a display that is built into the charger to display per cell voltage and displays a warning when one cell is out of balance or dead and terminates charging.

Fires are due to modding ebikes to go faster.

It's not about health and saftey. It's about control and extracting more money out of tax payers. The last 4 years are a perfect example.

Eventually you won't be able to bring higher capacity batteries inside public spaces and residential building. Manufacturers are begging for legislation... Yet they'll spend way more in lobbying against it than engineering.

Leaving these lion packs charging overnight, unattended, inside buildings is going to be , needs to be verboten and voids an insurance claim , in the future. This is a weekly occurrence. And a certification means nothing with the battery pack when each pack has a lot of manual labor to solder all the cells together, the potential for a short is always there.

After a certain point / speed an e-bike should have to follow the same rules as motorcycles.
